Skin and fibre

Prehistorical products made of skin or fibre are considered to be those which are quite rare because they have been hardly ever preserved to this day. Most of them were found in marsh or glacier.

Animals skins were processed by tanning. There were two types of skin products: either fur (with hairs) or leather (without hairs).

Textile production is connected with plants such as flax, hemp or nettle. The material was processed with spindle and then the fabric was weaved in a vertical weaving loom. A replica of it you can see in the central part of this room. It was possible to decorate the fabric. It can be embroidered, coloured or printed as you can see at pieces of clothing of two Germans.
